Dadurch k\u00f6nnen Bakterien, die abgestorbenes Gewebe und Schadstoffe zersetzen, effizienter arbeiten.<\/p><p>Generell gilt: Je h\u00f6her der ORP-Wert, desto ges\u00fcnder der See oder Fluss.<\/p><p>Aber selbst in gesunden Seen und Fl\u00fcssen gibt es weniger Sauerstoff (und daher niedrigere ORP-Werte), wenn man sich den Bodensedimenten (Schlamm; siehe das Bild unten eines Seebodens) n\u00e4hert.<\/p><p>Denn in den Sedimenten arbeiten viele Bakterien flei\u00dfig daran, abgestorbenes Gewebe zu zersetzen, und sie verbrauchen viel des verf\u00fcgbaren Sauerstoffs.<\/p><p>Tats\u00e4chlich verschwindet Sauerstoff sehr schnell im Bodenschlamm (oft innerhalb von ein oder zwei Zentimetern) und ORP f\u00e4llt schnell ab. ORP wird zus\u00e4tzlich zum gel\u00f6sten Sauerstoff gemessen, da ORP den Wissenschaftlern zus\u00e4tzliche Informationen \u00fcber die Wasserqualit\u00e4t und den Grad der Verschmutzung, falls vorhanden, liefern kann.<\/p><p>Au\u00dferdem gibt es andere Elemente, die wie Sauerstoff (in Bezug auf die Chemie) funktionieren und zu einem erh\u00f6hten ORP beitragen k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2a22d47 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2a22d47\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Warum ist das Oxidations-Reduktions-Potential wichtig?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cbff187 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cbff187\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>ORP h\u00e4ngt von der Menge an gel\u00f6stem Sauerstoff im Wasser sowie von der Anzahl anderer Elemente ab, die \u00e4hnlich wie Sauerstoff wirken.<\/p><p>Obwohl es technisch nicht korrekt ist, helfen Sauerstoff und andere Elemente, die zu einem hohen ORP beitragen, effektiv dabei, Dinge zu \u201eessen\u201c, die wir nicht im Wasser haben wollen \u2013 wie z. Oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) measures the ability of a lake or river to cleanse itself or break down waste products, such as contaminants and dead plants and animals. When the ORP value is high, there is lots of oxygen present in the water. This means that bacteria that decompose dead tissue and contaminants can work more efficiently. In general, the higher the ORP value, the healthier the lake or river is. However, even in healthy lakes and rivers, there is less oxygen (and therefore lower ORP values) as you get closer to the bottom sediments (mud; see the picture below of a lake bottom). This is because there are many bacteria working hard in the sediments to decompose dead tissue, and they use up a lot of the available oxygen. In fact, oxygen disappears very quickly in the bottom mud (often within a centimeter or two) and ORP falls quickly. ORP is measured in addition to dissolved oxygen because ORP can provide scientists with additional information of the water quality and degree of pollution, if present. Also, there are other elements that can function like oxygen (in terms of chemistry) and contribute to increased ORP. Why does oxidation-reduction potential matter? ORP depends on the amount of dissolved oxygen that is in the water, as well as the number of other elements that function similarly to oxygen. Though not technically correct, oxygen and other elements that contribute to high ORP effectively help \u2018eat\u2019 things that we don\u2019t want in the water \u2013 such as contaminants and dead tissues. When ORP is low, dissolved oxygen is low, the toxicity of certain metals and contaminants can increase, and there is lots of dead and decaying material in the water that cannot be cleared or decomposed. This is not a healthy environment for fish or bugs. In healthy waters, ORP should read high between 300 and 500 millivolts. In the North, we might expect low ORP in waters that receive sewage inputs or industrial waste. ORP is measured directly in the lake or river water that you are investigating using an ORP sensor.
